WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As Black History Month progresses, a list of events, panels, performances, and more taking place around the Wabash Valley has been compiled.
For those looking for ways to celebrate, learn, and participate this Black History Month, check out some of the options below.

- St. Mary-of-the-Woods Hosts Dr. Janie Myers to Speak
- What: Dr. Janie Myers will present and speak on her experiences with leadership, cultural and structural barriers, and women’s empowerment in medicine.

- Black Women Leaders Panel Discussion and Networking
- What: The Multicultural Services and Programs, the Women’s Resource Center, and the Career Center invite participants to attend a leadership-experienced, multi-speaker panel to learn about how to develop leadership skills, pursue leadership opportunities, and more. The following community leaders will be panelists:
- Regina Atkins, Associate Director of Admissions at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
- Lakisha M. Bradley, Lecturer and BSW Field Coordinator within the ISU Department of Social Work

- The ISU Performing Arts Series: Ain’t Misbehavin’
- What: A tribute to Fats Walter and Black Harlem-Renaissance era musicians of the 1920s and 1930s, the musical, Ain’t Misbehavin’ is a tribute to an era of growing creativity, cultural awareness, and ethnic pride. Tickets are currently available for purchase online, by phone at 1-877-ISU-TIXS, or can be purchased from the ISU Hulman Center. Prices vary depending on age, and relationship to the university.

- When: Wednesday, Feb. 8 | Pre-show: 6:30 p.m., Show: 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
- Blackballed: The Black and White Politics of Race on America’s Campuses
- What: Presenting a lecture regarding on-campus racism, Lawrence Ross, the author of the Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities, and Blackballed: The Black & White Politics of Race on America’s Campuses will be providing a two-hour key-note presentation. A popular lecture performed on over 300 college campuses, the event has been described as “blunt, educational, engaging, and humorous.”

- Black Resistance Film Series through the Eugene V. Debs Museum.
- What: As a part of the Black Resistance Film Series, the Eugene V. Debs Museum will be hosting a free screening 10,000 Black Men Named George, the true story of the Pullman Porters confronting corporate power to organize the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters.

- ISU Galleries Public Blackness Reception
- What: Indiana State is holding a reception for an exhibit that will take place across all three galleries on campus titled Public Blackness
- Where: All ISU galleries: Turman Gallery, Yang Family University Art Gallery, Bare-Montgomery Gallery
- When: Thursday, Feb. 16 | 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
- Terre Haute Pride Center Black History Month Panel
- What: The Terre Haute Pride Center is hosting a Black History Month panel.

- When: Thursday, Feb. 16 | 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Showing of The Woman King at SIU
- What: The movie follows an all-female military regiment, the Agojie, with Viola Davis as a general who works to train a new generation of female recruits to prepare for a war with rival tribes that threaten the kingdom. The event is ADEI Certificate approved.

- ISU Galleries Public Blackness Panel Discussion
- What: ISU is hosting an exhibit that will take place across all three galleries and will include a panel discussion the day following the reception
- Where: Turman Gallery, Fine Arts Building | 645 Chestnut Street, Terre Haute, IN 47809)
- When: Friday, Feb. 17 | 3-4 p.m.
- Musician Eems to Preform at St. Mary-of-the-Woods
- What: Eems is a singer, songwriter, rapper, looper, and pianist that blends styles of hip-hop, pop, and alternative music. Known for versatile covers and mashups, Eems has become known for his versatile mashups and covers and has played in several venues across the country.

- When: Tuesday, Feb. 21 | 8 p.m.
- Black Young Women Leadership Series at SIU
- What: Southern Illinois University is hosting a Black Young Women Leadership Series
- Where: Student Center Old Main Room | 1255 Lincoln Dr, Carbondale, IL 62901
- When: Wednesday, Feb. 22 | 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Studio 12 Gallery Call for Black artists
- What: Studio 12 has announced an open gallery call for Black artists. Those interested can reach out to them on their social media for more details.
- Where: Studio 12 | 1242 Maple Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47804
- When: The exhibit will run from Wednesday, Feb. 22 – Sunday, March 26
- SIU Afro-Centric Fashion Show
- What: SIU is hosting an Afro-Centric fashion show. The event is ADEI certificate approved.
- Where: Student Center Auditorium | 1255 Lincoln Dr, Carbondale, IL 62901
- When: Sunday, Feb. 26 | 2 p.m.
- Frederick Douglass in Terre Haute History Tour
- What: This walking tour will take participants through parts of downtown Terre Haute, focusing on the time that Douglass spent in the area. Hosted by Dr. Crystal Reynolds and Pi Kappa Alpha, all attendees should dress for a walk outdoors. Warm refreshments and free gifts and surprises will be offered to participants. Spots are limited and those interested must sign up using the QR code on the flyer.
- Where: The tour will begin in the lobby of the Cuningham Memorial Library and will finish at the Vigo County Historical Museum.
