KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Knox County Indiana Sheriff’s Office carried out a saturation patrol that resulted in 40 warnings, 10 citations, and 5 arrests.
On January 27 between 9 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. Knox County law enforcement set up a saturation patrol with three canine units along US 41. A saturation patrol refers to an increased amount of officers in one area, often looking for impaired driving. The patrol consisted of five deputies and resulted in 40 warning tickets, 10 traffic citations, plus the arrest of five individuals.
The cause for the arrests ranged from possession of marijuana and methamphetamine to warrants, to the illegal possession of a firearm.
When asked about the reasonings for the saturation patrol, Major James Wehrman with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office described the decision-making process.
“A group of us just get together once a month with the canine units and it just gets us out and away from the desks. It’s called Operation Pullover. We just get together once a month and decide where we’re going to do our high-traffic stops and go from there,” Wehrman explained.
Major Wehrman mentioned there are no specific areas they receive complaints of and the choice of which area to hold the saturation patrol is made by the deputies involved.
