TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Today the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has received 2 separate reports of scam phone calls in which someone is impersonating law enforcement.
Officials from the Terre Haute Police Department said that both calls happened this morning from different phone numbers, but are believed to be from the same person. The caller falsely identified themselves as either a detective or a deputy and specifically claimed to be Lt. Brent Hall.
In both reports, the impersonator attempted to deceive the victims by saying there were warrants out for their arrests and that they would have to pay a fine or face jail time. The caller then requested that the victims meet them in person to pay for the false fines.
If you receive a call like this, do not respond, provide money, or agree to meet the caller for any reason.
The incidents are currently being handled by criminal investigative officials.
