TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – In light of inflation and the price of many items in our everyday lives going up, the Terre Haute Humane Society said it has seen an increase in people coming to their Pet Pantry.
The Pet Pantry allows community members to pick up free dog or cat food to help out animal owners who may be in need.
Stacy Wilkins, staff member with THHS, said helping others feed their pets and keeping the pantry stocked, helps keep animals out of the shelter.
“It’s hard times for everybody right now. So I mean anything that we can do to help with that. If we can help by giving some food so that you can keep your animal, that helps too,” Wilkins said.
For the month of July, Wilkins said they gave away more than 2,000 pounds of pet food.
“2,000 pounds is more than we’ve done in a long time,” Wilkins said.
As we sit about halfway through August, Wilkins explained the need for pet food has not slowed down for pet owners.
“Our pantry is running very very low right now so yes, any donations are definitely welcome,” Wilkins said.
She said THHS will accept donations of any type of pet food, which can be dropped off during their normal business hours.
