INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A potential trial date in the murder case against Shane Meehan likely won’t be until spring of 2023.
That’s according to documents filed in the Southern District of Indiana United States District Court. Thursday a pre-trial status conference was held in which attorneys representing Meehan as well as the prosecution advised the court that they would need approximately nine months to prepare for trial.
While an official date hasn’t yet been set, that would mean the trial likely won’t begin until at least May of 2023.
In a previous filing, prosecutors announced they would not seek the death penalty for the man accused of shooting and killing Terre Haute Police Detective and FBI Task Force Officer Greg Ferency in July of 2021.
Meehan was indicted by a grand jury in January 2022 on charges of murder of a federal officer, attempted arson of federal property, and using a firearm during a crime of violence causing death.
