TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The cause of a fire Sunday afternoon at the Light House Mission Thrift Store is still under investigation.
Around 2 p.m. Sunday, the Terre Haute Fire Department received a call for a trash can on fire in front of the store located on Lafayette Avenue.
According to Chief Bill Berry with the Terre Haute Fire Department, when crews first arrived there were heavy flames.
“They put a really good stop, it was fully involved inside,” Berry said. “We got it under control in about an hour, saved the building but the content are destroyed.”
The store was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no one was harmed.
Although the building is salvageable Reverend Timothy Fagg Chief Executive Officer of Light House Ministries, said the damage may be too much to repair.
“It looks like it is going to be a total loss,” Fagg said.
The thrift store provided furniture and clothing items for nickel and dollar prices.
“When you see all that hard work you put into something and it goes up in flames, well it’s pretty tough,” Fagg said.
Light House Mission Ministries is asking the community to be patient. There is a board meeting set to discuss the future of the store on the 30th.
