VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Students at South Knox High School experienced the dangers of driving while impaired without actually being in any danger when UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour came to town Friday.
“I just did a drunk-driving simulator and I crashed a few cars,” student Grace Robinson said.
Arrive Alive uses a state-of-the-art simulator hooked up to a vehicle to demonstrate how an individual’s driving changes when they’re drunk, distracted, or high on marijuana. The simulator is the only of its kind that replicates the experience of driving while on marijuana.
Knox County Deputy Dan Short explained, “We started bringing (Arrive) Alive in two years ago with the intent of having our junior and senior class — which is our primary drivers here at the school — go through this driving before prom every year, just so they have that new awareness of the danger of impaired driving before those events.”
UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour works with highway safety offices, government agencies, U.S. military bases, corporations, communities, colleges, and high schools throughout the nation with the mission of changing these dangerous driving behaviors and saving lives.
