TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Monday, the Vigo County School Corporation officials announced the hiring of its first Director of Civility, Diversity and International Exchange.
Louisville, Kentucky native Matthew McClendon was selected for the position.
McClendon has a master’s degree in educational and counseling psychology.
He is also pursuing a PhD in educational leadership and organizational development.
Currently, he develops programming for low-income, first-generation, or disabled students at the University of Louisville.
The creation of the position was first approved by the Vigo County school board last winter.
“I want to be able to bridge the gap with diversity and inclusion and give a voice to populations that may feel like they don’t have a voice, especially when it comes to daily functions and a sense of belonging. So I thought this is great, especially the K-12 realm,” McClendon said.
McClendon said he hopes to get started with the Vigo County School Corporation within the next two weeks.
