OAKTOWN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Halloween, Thursday night neighborhoods all over will be full of trick-or-treaters.
But, not every candy hungry ghoul will trick-or-treat outside.
In fact, many will take to retirement homes in the Wabash Valley for their goodies.
Oak Village Healthcare in Oaktown has been preparing for visitors all week.
Resident Rita McCormick said her favorite part of Halloween is handing out candy.
“It’s amazing what a little piece of candy can do, how happy it can make a little kid,” she said.
Every year Oak Village opens it’s doors for local trick-or-treaters.
Facility Administrator Cassie Abel said this tradition means a lot to the residents.
“Unfortunately a lot of times our residents don’t have families anymore that will come and see them,” she explained. “And so they’re missing their grand-kids and to see the other little kids come through it kind of gives them a sense of family and of warmth. And that’s very important for them.”
Residents and staff partake in Halloween fun with face painting and spooky movies.
But nothing beats seeing the smiles of local ghosts and ghouls.
RITA: “I just like to see all of them,” said McCormik. “Just see what their imaginations have taken them to for a costume.”
“Our residents absolutely love seeing children,” said Abel. “And having them in cute little costumes, it brightens up their day.”
