Terre Haute, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) The Council on Domestic Abuse or CODA helped nearly 2700 domestic violence victims last year in Vigo County alone.
According to Executive Director Sarah Campbell, around 200 people were housed in the emergency shelter in 2018 and nearly 2500 used the advocate at the courthouse to help obtain protective orders or understand how the criminal justice system works.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Annually, the organization unfurls its banner from the top floor of the courthouse rotunda. It’s to honor those who’ve died from domestic violence and remind people help is available.
If you or someone you know needs help, you can call the Domestic Abuse Hotline at 800-566-CODA that’s 800-566-2632.
