TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Long before sunrise Friday law enforcement officers from around Terre Haute and Vigo County climbed up and perched atop the Dunkin’ at Third Street, but they’re not on a stakeout.
Friday from 5 a.m. until noon officers and deputies are raising money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Indiana during the annual “Cop on a Rooftop’ event. The Terre Haute Dunkin’ is one of 16 locations across Indiana participating in the fundraiser.
Locally, the Terre Haute Fire Department is also participating, along with others.
Since 2018 the event has raised more than $10,880 for Special Olympics Indiana. In that same time period, local officers and the Dunkin’ location have raised more than $3,000.
Guests to the store can make a donation to the Torch Run and recieve a free donut.
2019 is the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Indiana. The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run is a fundraising program that benefits Special Olympics.
