VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County Fair is next month and this year you can help out local children one soda can at a time.
Vigo County CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) will be collecting empty aluminum drink cans during the Vigo County Fair and will be set up at the entrance to the grandstands.
Those who give 5 cans or more can be entered into a contest to win a tailgate package, and there will be other fun contests during the fair as well.
CASA’s goal is to recycle 300,000 cans, which would equate to a $5,000 donation from the community.
“We are needing the assistance because due to funding limitations, a lot of the big programs that we do for the children we serve are in jeopardy of not being able to do them or being able to do them in the capacity that we have in the past and those are things like our back to school, our Christmas in Whoville [programs],” said Glenna Cheesman, Vigo County CASA director.
Vigo County CASA will be at the fair from July 9 – July 15, however, the CASA fundraiser will continue even when the fair is over.
CASA’s goal for the entire year is to recycle 500,000 cans amounting to a near $10,000 donation.
